Writing Classes in Wilmington - Start the Week of Sept. 10

Calling all Writers and Would-Be Writers in Wilmington, NC!

The Cameron Art Museum is offering three creative writing classes through the Museum School, beginning next week. Here's the skinny!

Nature Writing

Instructor Sheila Boneham ~ http://www.sheilaboneham.com
6 Mondays, 6-9 p.m., Sept. 10 - October 19

Explore the natural world through writing, your own and a few select writers (including Ted Kooser, Mary Oliver, Denise Levertov, Barbara Hurd, Loren Eiseley, Sheila Boneham, Barbara Kinsolver, and more). We will begin with exercises designed to sharpen your focus and build your “attention” muscles, and then explore, through in class and (if you like) at-home writing and short readings, the art of writing fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry about the natural world. Outdoor sessions weather permitting.

Creative Writing for Artists (and Other Creative People!)

Instructor Sheila Boneham ~ http://www.sheilaboneham.com
6 Wednesdays, 6-9, Sept. 12 - October 17

Writing creatively (and reading creative writing) can help fuel our other creative pursuits. Using a variety of creative exercises, we will play with narrative and poetry as ways to see our art and inspiration through language, and use language itself as artistic inspiration. Participants will be encouraged to write creative pieces in class (and out if you like), and to respond artistically out of class to selected writing (your own or others’).

Writers’ Workshop

6 Thursdays, 6-8, Sept 13 - October 18
Instructor Michelle Bliss

The Writers' Workshop is specifically geared toward experienced writers who are looking for thoughtful feedback on a consistent basis. If you’re pursuing a novel, amemoir, a short story or poetry collection, or several literary projects, this workshop isfor you. Writing is often viewed as a solitary craft, but every writer needs a support teamalong the way. Meeting on a continual basis will allow us to fully engage with eachother’s work, providing helpful feedback and ample encouragement at every stage of this rewarding journey.
